Build, Maintain, and Ignite
Your Writers' Group
Is your writing or illustrator group in a rut? Want to be in a
funky new
groove? We’ll
show you how retool and refocus your group. We'll
explore how to identify your group's strengths, principles, and
goals,
and how to turn them
into a business plan/mission statement the whole
group can implement. We'll cover ways to keep your group connected
and moving forward. You'll leave with a plan of action and plenty
of
ideas on how to ignite and refocus your group for maximum effect.

Women of Granite:
25 New Hampshire Women You Should Know
The Write Sisters discovered a number of interesting women in
researching and writing their book Women of Granite: 25 New
Hampshire Women You Should Know. Many of these women
were unknown to them at the start of the project, and are unknown
to the public in general. Come learn who these women are, why
they've faded from the public consciousness, and why you
should know about them.
It's Not Vanity: The
Decision to Self-Publish
Technology
has made self-publishing a viable option for today's writers,
yet it is not a decision to be made lightly. Write Sister Muriel
Dubois and
book designer/illustrator Lisa Greenleaf will take participants
through the
process of self-publishing a book and present examples of
self-published
books, as well as reasons for and against going this route.
So You Want to Write for Children?
Promises and Pitfalls
Between them, The Write Sisters have published more than a hundred
books--from picture books to nonfiction to novels. They will let
you in
on the promises and pitfalls of writing and publishing for
children. To
be discussed will be: audience, types of children's books, nonbook
writing for children, how to get started, how to submit your
manuscript
(and what to expect once you do), and more. The Write Sisters want
you
to leave their presentation knowing the answer to this question:
"How do
I find someone to illustrate my book?"
Writing Nonfiction for Children:
Why and
How
Any publisher of children's books will tell you that fiction
submissions
vastly outnumber nonfiction submissions. The Write Sisters tell
you
why you should consider nonfiction, the markets for nonfiction,
and
how to go about writing in this rewarding genre.
Picture Book Writing
A picture book is like a good marriage--it's a 50/50 proposition.
In the
case of picture books, the words and the illustrations must work
together equally. The Write Sisters will introduce you to a number
of
picture books and will help analyze what works and what doesn't.
With
this basic knowledge in hand, you will be prepared to write a
picture
book of your own.
